NIGERIA WILL CONTINUE TO BE THE AVIATION HUB IN WEST AFRICA – AMNESTY COORDINATOR

 Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta and Coordinator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, Brigadier General Paul Boroh (Rtd) says in spite of the seeming economic challenges in recent times, Nigeria will continue to maintain her position as aviation hub in West Africa, adding that with the high level of human capacity being developed through various manpower development training programmes in the aviation sector in the last few years.

Speaking with newsmen at the Murtala Muhammed International, Lagos on his way to Abuja, Gen. Boroh who visited the corporate head office of Air Peace in Lagos to show his deep appreciation to the management and staff of the airline for the support to the Amnesty Office in the area of engagement and training of some beneficiaries from the Presidential Amnesty Programme, hinted that a sizeable number of delegates of the Presidential Amnesty Programme who have been certified as pilots are already working within the aviation sector.

According to the Amnesty boss, the aviation sub sector has opened a lot of avenues for interested youths in the Niger Delta region to become Pilots, Co-Pilots, Aircraft Maintenance Engineers, Cabin Crew, Technicians and Ground Duty Service Officers, among others.

While commending President Muhammandu Buhari for sustaining the Amnesty Programme, he maintained that the various ongoing skills and vocational trainings were meant to bring sustainable peace and stability in the Niger Delta region.

He therefore enjoined the youths particularly delegates of the Presidential Amnesty Programme to explore the career opportunities in the civil aviation sub-sector, adding that aviation offers several career opportunities for youths in the country.

Gen. Boroh added that “Besides the obvious thrill of going places and seeing the world in five-star comfort, there are several attractive perks that go with the aviation sub-sector that the youths can leverage on, particularly for the Amnesty delegates that have undergone several degrees of trainings in aviation related areas through the Presidential Amnesty Programme’s scholarship scheme over the years in several parts of the globe”.

“There are certain attributes to be a Pilot should have; one should not be afraid of heights and should have a passion to fly those machines. One should possess a good coordination of mind and limbs. The ability to remain calm under any circumstance and apply theoretical knowledge into practice, while flying is very important”, he advised.

AGRICULTURE

One area that has remained of utmost importance to the Presidential Amnesty Office is Agriculture. This is in line with the presidential initiative on exploring available potentials in the sector to grow the national economy.  The Amnesty vigorously pursuing partnerships with relevant agroallied groups to among other things encourage the youth of the Niger Delta to embrace commercial agriculture. Some of the key partners include the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and the National Bio-Technology Development center. Delegates have been empowered by the office to begin fishery, poultry and crop farming while thousands of delegates yet to be trained are now being deployed into Agriculture.
